Coin Farming
Challenge 17
All you need is a fully trained Kana Ikeda with stats allocated more or less arbitrarily.
With her, you repeat Challenge 17 of the Challenges. The challenge itself is fairly difficult, so the success rate is about 40% per attempt, but the time efficiency is good.
One thing to note is that a baiman tsumo only ties for 2nd; the ideal ways to win for certain are either "win with sanbaiman or yakuman" or "tsumo a mangan and then tsumo mangan or higher again."
If you win with a haneman, the ability's adjustment disappears, so you'll want to avoid that... though Mihoko Fukuji's adjustments are also high, so you can't afford to be too leisurely.
Network Challenge 10
All you need is a fully trained Awai Oohoshi. Allocate everything to Ability, Spirit, Intimidation, and Resistance, and just use the ability to attack with double riichi and either bust the opponent or defend 1st place at all costs.
You get won against at most about 3 times per hanchan, and the reward of 400 is large, but because of the nature of network play the tempo drops, so the earning pace is probably about the same as Challenge 17.
The ultimate weapon for those who find neither of the above satisfying
Training Point Farming
Idling (AFK)
Nothing in particular is needed; just set the time limit to 5 seconds and leave it idle.
One thing to watch out for is that the PS Vita itself goes to sleep if it isn't operated. The setting can only go up to 30 minutes at most, so you need to touch the screen or press a button now and then.
Suukaikan Draw (Plus Edition only)
Prepare a Saki Miyanaga with everything allocated to Haipai, and turn on CPU training reflection.
In that state, if you set all the CPUs to Saki Miyanaga and play a match, the CPUs will very likely declare kan, so most rounds end in a suukaikan draw, and you can earn training points efficiently just by mashing the button.
As time passes, their Spirit runs out (their haipai gets worse) and they stop declaring kan, so when that happens, just end the match. At this point the amount of training points obtained is not displayed, but the points have been added.
Of course, you can also set the waiting time to 5 seconds and leave it idle without mashing.
This method cannot be used with Awai Oohoshi, who worsens the haipai.
Tips
Coin-Saving Technique
First, prepare a certain amount of funds and buy some senbei.
If the rare card you were after (a dress-up character, tiles, table, a single illustration, etc.) comes out here, going back to the main menu saves automatically.
Conversely, if the rare card you wanted doesn't come out after buying a certain amount, you can press the PS button, swipe from the upper right to close the game, and relaunch it to return to before the coins were spent.
Note that at this point, returning to the main menu will save.
Since it involves a restart it takes some time, so it depends on how many coins you can tolerate, but it is desirable to prepare at least a few hundred coins.
