FAQ
Is It Worth Buying?
I can't recommend it as a mahjong tool.
For mahjong beginners in particular, the fact that there is no tutorial in the game and the manual doesn't describe the rules will be a major barrier.
You might look for beginner explanations online, or read a book like "Saki Love-jan: Maho-chan's Signature Move Complete! ."
The main theme is, after all, a character game and an ability mahjong game.
If you understand that, I think it is fine to buy it.
There is technically an ability-off mode, but I can't recommend it for the reasons described below.
Is an ability mahjong game like that certain mahjong game, where someone wins with tenhou right at the start and it's over?
It isn't that merciless. (Very rarely someone may win with tenhou, though.)
To compare it to a fighting game, there are projectiles like the Hadouken, but they aren't so strong that getting hit means certain death; they are just one of the attack options, which is about the same thing.
What are the ability activation conditions?
Activates automatically when specific conditions are met (Yuuki Kataoka, Kana Ikeda, etc.)
Performing a specific action (Saki Miyanaga, Jun Inoue, etc.)
Pressing the R button at the start (Ryuka Shimizudani, Sae Usuzawa, etc.)
are the basics, but there are also irregular characters whose ability isn't fully effective unless you press the R button and then perform a specific action, or who let you choose which ability to activate after pressing R.
Which characters are included?
A total of 8 schools that appeared in the original series and Achiga, along with all the students from the 3 schools that Kiyosumi High School faced in the quarterfinals, for a total of 55 characters, are included.
In addition, 6 more characters are included separately from these.
However, Kyoutarou Suga, Ayumu Sugino, Yasuko Fujita, and Harue Akaji were cut (in the Plus Edition only, Yasuko Fujita was added in an update and Harue Akaji was added as paid DLC).
How strong is the computer?
It is the weakest in the series. It mostly plays defensively. The following also happens:
- It sometimes declares riichi while in furiten.
- It ignores winning chances (even ignoring tsumo wins).
- It wins with cheap hands without declaring riichi, regardless of the situation.
- It deals in even with characters like Teru who can sense winning tiles.
- It makes cheap wins ignoring the standings.
What are the major changes in the series?
A training element has been added.
By playing, you earn training points for the character you used.
You can allocate these points to strengthen the ability, improve the haipai, or improve the tsumo.
Also, if you use the ability too much, it becomes unusable. If you want to use the ability for longer, allocate points to Spirit.
Even characters without abilities can fight ability users to a certain extent if you allocate points to Intimidation and Resistance.
What about the Limit Challenge?
It's gone.
However, it has handed its role over to the Network Challenges.
They are fairly high in difficulty, but not so much that they are impossible.
