Himematsu High School

Himematsu High School

Senpo: Man Uwashige

Voice Actor: Jurisa Date
A second-year member of the Himematsu High School Mahjong Club.
She plays Senpo in the team tournament.
Her win rate under the standard rules at school is not very good,
but when she wins, she racks up explosive scores—a high-firepower player.
Her family runs an okonomiyaki restaurant.

Ability: Activates randomly
Once activated, it lasts for multiple rounds
Makes you more likely to draw 6-9 tiles

Initial Stats Ability ★★★
Spirit ★★★
Tsumo ★★★
Haipai ★★★

Haipai Adjustment
Ability Activation Timing At the start of a round

Special Cut-In Conditions

Match-Only Voice Lines

“It was a dud… (Suehara)”
“If it doesn't work out, it's permanent marker on my forehead (Suehara)”

Mechanics

The Ability value raises the initial activation probability and the continuation probability. It also changes the number of tiles stacked at first.
At MAX, the average starting round is the 1st-2nd round
With no points allocated, the average starting round is the 3rd-4th round
The stacking pattern is as follows:
A shuntsu or koutsu of 6-9 is stacked at random.
A shuntsu or koutsu in manzu, a shuntsu or koutsu in pinzu, and a shuntsu or koutsu in souzu form one set, so it always becomes a sanshoku hand.

With Spirit at MAX, it can continue for up to 10 rounds,
and the average duration at Ability MAX is 10 rounds.
With no points allocated, the average is 3-4 rounds.

This ability is not affected by the Haipai and Tsumo values.

Strategy

When she bursts, her hand is quite easy to read, so you'll basically be winning by tsumo.

Koutsu and shuntsu tend to form at the same time, and a 9 is very likely to be involved, so the drawback is that it tends to become a cheap tsumo-only hand.
However, its strength is that high-value hands are easy to aim for: junchan sanshoku for shuntsu-type hands, and sanshoku doukou, sanankou, toitoi, and suuankou for koutsu-type hands.

If a koutsu has dora on it, don't be too greedy—win quickly and reliably even with tsumo alone.
As for kan, the chance of the rinshan tile being a 6-9 is very low and it makes your hand even easier to read, so if you do declare kan, do it after riichi.

As for stat allocation, it's good to max out Haipai in preparation for when the ability is broken or burns out, on top of Ability and Spirit at MAX.
The rest is up to your preference.

Jiho: Yuko Mase

Voice Actor: Haruka Yoshimura
A third-year member of the Himematsu High School Mahjong Club.
She plays Jiho in the team tournament.
Her results in past tournaments have been consistently stable.
A young lady raised in Tezukayama, she wears a man's red watch
that her father bought for her.

Chuken: Hirone Atago

Voice Actor: Satsumi Matsuda
A third-year member of the mahjong club, she plays Chuken in the team tournament.
She is also the captain of the mahjong club.
One of the players to watch, boasting top-level skill nationwide.
Her mother, Masae Atago, is a famous player who was active as a pro
and is the coach of the Senriyama Girls' High School Mahjong Club.

Ability: While not in riichi, she can tell opponents' winning tiles
After riichi, she is less likely to draw dangerous tiles

Initial Stats Ability ★★★

Haipai Adjustment Iipeikou, Sanshoku, Sanankou, Chiitoitsu

Special Cut-In Conditions

Match-Only Voice Lines

“A riichi to crush your momentum!”
“It's comin', ippatsu's comin'!!” ...First turn after riichi

Mechanics

With no points allocated to Spirit (★4):
Can be activated about 15 times

Depending on the Ability value, each round you may be able to tell, with some probability, whether the score for dealing into a dangerous tile will be cheap (orange) or expensive (red).
At Ability MAX, you can always tell.
Even with no points allocated you can mostly tell, but occasionally a cheap hand is shown in red.
Also, when orange is displayed, it may stay orange even if the dora is a dangerous tile.

An expensive hand is never shown in orange, so the downsides are that you can no longer do sashikomi, and that you may carelessly deal into a dangerous dora tile (which is cheap, though).

Strategy

There is no problem at all leaving Ability and Spirit with no points allocated.
Atago-neki's strength is being able to declare riichi without fear.

Toyone's Senbu and Sumire's Sharp Shoot also have no effect on her,
so as long as her ability isn't broken, you will never lose points except through tsumo erosion.
(However, if the dora suji is orange, avoid discarding the dora.)

Haipai, Tsumo, and Luck at MAX are a given.
For the rest, being tsumo'd by an opponent is the scariest thing, and you'll want to shut down tsumo characters when their abilities activate, so Intimidation MAX is recommended.
Put all leftover points into Resistance.

Fukusho: Kinue Atago

Voice Actor: Mariko Nakatsu
A second-year member of the mahjong club.
She plays Fukusho.
She was on the soccer team in middle school, but she began playing mahjong
out of admiration for her older sister Hirone.
She is cousins with Hiroko Funakubo, the Fukusho of the Senriyama Girls' High School Mahjong Club.

Ability: When you work 1-pin into your hand, you are highly likely to draw more 1-pin

Initial Stats Ability ★★
Spirit ★★★
Tsumo ★★★
Haipai ★★★
Luck ★★★★
Haipai Adjustment Pinzu
Ability Activation Timing When a discard locks in tenpai

Special Cut-In Conditions

5 = Tsumo with baiman or higher

Match-Only Voice Lines

“My deal got passed…” ...When the dealership is lost
“These are the points I took over from my sis!”

Mechanics

Pinzu stacking occurs with a certain probability.
The number of stacked pinzu increases with the Haipai value.
The stacking pattern is as follows:
(1) A pair of 1 or 2 + a shuntsu of 345 or 456 + 1 set of a 7-9 koutsu + random
(2) Pinzu ittsuu + random

At MAX, the average pinzu count is 9-10 (min 8, max 10)
With no points allocated, the average pinzu count is 7-8 (min 6, max 10 (rare))
* Most often it is the pair or a shuntsu that is missing

Also, the stacking probability changes with the Ability value.
At MAX, stacking is guaranteed.

Tsumo also has a pinzu adjustment, but the probability doesn't seem to change noticeably with stats.

Strategy

She is a character with few downsides even if her ability is broken, so Ability and Haipai at MAX are recommended.
When going for a flush, 1-pin inevitably gets involved with high probability, so allocate some points to Spirit too.
Since the effects on Tsumo and Luck are not yet known, for now the rest can be as you prefer.

She is also the easiest character to aim for chuuren poutou with, after Teru.
If a 9 koutsu shape or an ittsuu comes from the stacking, just going for the flush can sometimes get you to chuuren tenpai.
If you get 11 + shuntsu + 999, don't hesitate to go for chuuren.

Taisho: Kyouko Suehara

Voice Actor: Minako Kotobuki
A third-year, she plays Taisho in the team tournament.
Although she is among the top players at school, she calls herself an ordinary person
and has a steady personality, always playing mahjong while assuming the worst.
She spares no effort on analysis and countermeasures.

Ability: Making an effective call strengthens her own draws,
and weakens the draws of one opponent

Initial Stats Ability ★★★
Spirit ★★★★
Tsumo ★★★★
Haipai ★★★★
Luck ★★★
Haipai Adjustment Chiitoitsu, Chiitoitsu + Honitsu (manzu), Chinitsu, Kantsu (1-2)
Ability Activation Timing When calling

Special Cut-In Conditions

5 = / 6 =

Match-Only Voice Lines

“I can do this!”
“This is discouraging…”
“I'll roll the dice and get my head spinning too!”

Mechanics

It does not activate for calls that don't change the shanten count.
It may activate even for ankan.

The duration of the ability depends on how far the Ability has been trained.
  • Under ★5: 1 turn
  • ★5 or above: 2 turns
  • MAX: 3 turns

Comments

  • I've written out the Haipai Adjustments for each character as far as I know them. I've barely researched them yet, so I'd be glad if you could keep adding to and correcting this. --- (2018/02/27 22:56:35)
